Red flag

A red flag is an indicator that a transaction or behaviour may be linked to financial crime, such as a payer name that does not match the account holder. A red flag is a reason to look further, not proof.

Why it matters for brokers and payment firms

Narratives should state which red flags were observed and what evidence supports each. A list of flags without evidence is one of the gaps FIUs point to.
