FIU (Financial intelligence unit)
A financial intelligence unit is the national agency that receives suspicious transaction reports, analyses them and passes intelligence to law enforcement. Each country has one: the UAE FIU, Saudi Arabia's SAFIU and Türkiye's MASAK are examples. FIUs exchange information with each other through the Egmont Group.
Why it matters for brokers and payment firms
The FIU is the reader of every report a firm files. Its requests for information, feedback and published typologies should shape how the firm writes narratives and tunes its rules.
