CTR (Cash or currency transaction report)

A currency or cash transaction report is a threshold report: it is filed for every cash transaction above a set amount, whether or not anything is suspicious. Not every jurisdiction uses CTRs, and thresholds and scope differ where they exist. A CTR is not a statement of suspicion.

Why it matters for brokers and payment firms

Where threshold reports exist, structuring around the threshold becomes a red flag in its own right. Payment firms handling cash or cash-like instruments need to know which thresholds apply to them.
