Nominee
A nominee is a person who holds shares, a directorship or an account in their own name on behalf of someone else. Nominee arrangements can be legitimate, but they can also hide the real owner or controller from the firm and the authorities.
Why it matters for brokers and payment firms
An account opened by a nominee trades for someone the firm has not vetted. Signs include a client who cannot explain the trading, instructions from third parties and funding from unrelated sources.
